Kansas Casinos and Sports Betting Record Remarkable Growth in November
Kansas’ four casinos collectively earned $35.3 million in November 2024, marking a significant milestone in the state’s gaming industry. This figure represents a 5.7% increase from October’s $33.4 million and an impressive 12.2% improvement over the $31.4 million earned in November 2023.
According to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission report, electronic gaming machines, commonly known as slots, contributed the majority of the revenue with $30.8 million, while table games added $4.5 million.
Each of the state’s casinos experienced growth when compared both month-over-month and year-over-year. Hollywood Casino & Resort took the lead, reporting $14.2 million in revenue for November, while Kansas Star Casino & Resort followed closely with $13.7 million. Boot Hill Casino & Resort earned just over $4 million, and Kansas Crossing Casino brought in $3.3 million.
Out of the $35.3 million generated, 73%—approximately $25.7 million—was retained by the casinos. The remaining 27% was allocated to the state government, local communities, and the problem gambling fund, highlighting the dual role of casino revenue in driving business success and supporting public initiatives.
Sports Betting Sets Records
In addition to the strong performance by casinos, November was a record-breaking month for sports betting in Kansas. The Kansas Lottery reported a total handle of $291 million, setting a new all-time high for the state. Revenue from sports wagering also hit a record $25.5 million, reflecting a remarkable year-over-year increase of over 400%.
The handle—the total amount wagered by bettors—was up 5.5% from November 2023, demonstrating consistent growth in Kansas’ sports betting market. This surge in revenue and betting activity further solidifies Kansas as a growing hub for both casual and dedicated bettors.
Looking at the broader picture, the state’s casino revenue for the fiscal year-to-date (YTD) has reached $170.6 million, a 4.5% increase over the same period last year. With just $30 million needed to surpass last year’s total casino revenue, Kansas is on track for a record-breaking year.
Hollywood Casino continues to lead in fiscal YTD earnings, generating $68.6 million so far—an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period last year. Kansas Star Casino follows with $63.2 million, reflecting a 4.98% annual rise. Both casinos have consistently outperformed expectations, driving the state’s impressive overall growth in gaming revenue.
Hollywood Casino and Kansas Star Casino have established themselves as key drivers of Kansas’ gaming industry. In November alone, Hollywood Casino reported a 14.6% year-over-year revenue increase, while Kansas Star Casino achieved a 13.5% rise. Boot Hill Casino and Kansas Crossing Casino also contributed to the positive growth, although on a smaller scale.
Despite these successes, competition may intensify in the future. Neighboring Missouri recently voted to legalize sports betting, a development that could impact Kansas’ market. The potential for cross-border competition has sparked discussions about how Kansas can maintain its momentum and continue to attract gaming enthusiasts.
Sustaining Growth Amid Opportunities
The continued growth in both casino revenue and sports betting underscores Kansas’ strong position in the gaming industry. November’s record-breaking results demonstrate the industry’s resilience and potential, even in the face of increasing regional competition.
As Kansas moves closer to surpassing last year’s total revenue figures, the focus will likely remain on sustaining growth and leveraging opportunities within the state. With a thriving casino sector and record-setting sports betting performance, Kansas’ gaming industry is poised for an even brighter future.
